7am start and after wandering thru’ the farmer’s market where nothing caught my eye for breakfast, I hit a typical american dinner. Got a ‘quaffee’, bacon, ham and tomato omelette, fruit salad and a muffin to take away. Muffin was very tasty although still not comparable to Matt’s secret recipe muffins back at work!
As well as getting told off for jay-walking, I also managed to get shouted at for eating on the cable car that I caught to the other side of town.
Alcatraz tour was brilliant. The headphones with old inmates and wardens telling the stories of failed escapes, fights and conditions on the island was fantastically done. As a bit of history Alcatraz was originally a military fortress created by the government when the gold rush start late 1800s. So many ships came to san fransico that it was felt some sort of fortress was required. After the gold rush died down the island was turned into a military prison were in-mates were allowed the freedom to roam the island as an open jail and were only locked up at night. They even built the new cell block which was to be the new holding ground for some of americas most feird criminals. In the 1940s Alcatraz became a federal prison and ofcourse things changed; no more mr nice guy!
hired a bike this afternoon and cycled along the coast and across the golden gate bridge. Awesome views. Managed to burn off a few folk on their fancier racers while I was on a MTB which made me feel good. Caught the ferry back to pier 1 and walked back thru’ china town – it was heaving as it seems all the chinese do their shopping on a sunday evening. Spent a small fortune in A+F which was always gonna happen.
Meeting a friend from Sydney tonight who I bumped into by pure chance on the Alcratraz tour!
Looking forward to the conference now and have an early start (again) to hit a ROI case study session at 7.30 am. Cheers, james
